ktvu's alex savage lets us know if it is boiling out there and how people are coping. >> reporter: it is hot out here in pleasanton. keep the water handy. on a day like today you want a cool spot like this or over there in the water. you could see the beach packed. this is shadow cliff lake. with inland temperatures expected to sore into the -- soar into the low 100s, people are looking for relief anyway they could get it. we talked to one woman who run as daycare center and she brought all the kids here to cool them off. >> we have 11 children here. we like to keep them under shade. i am counting heads while they were swimming. >> it is hot and we want it keep the kids cool.

>> reporter: they said mom, take me to water. >> exactly. we don't want to sit in the house, good idea to come out here and enjoy the water before it gets too hot. >> reporter: of course, this heat can be dangerous. i checked with the fire department, they are bracing for heat related calls they will get today. people should limit time outdoors, avoiding strenuous activities and load up on water. >> reconsider yard work, physical activity, things like that, wait till it cools off. while you are waiting, hydrate. >> reporter: and, of course, this heat means an increase fire danger inland. some of the humidity levels are in the single digits. good news, winds are light.

back out here live, the beach crowded, here in pleasanton today, people enjoying themselves today. an important note, pg&e issued an energy alert today. between 3:00 and 7:00 they are asking everyone to reduce their energy consumption. alex savage, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you, alex. it is a 30-degree spread in the bay area right now. ktvu's steve paulson will be long in a moment to show us the forecast. richman police tell ktvu they are searching for two men on bicycles blamed for a over night shooting. investigators say the two men on bikes fired 20 shots at a man walking down the street. an emergency helicopter rushed the victim to the hospital.

he is in serious but stable condition. he dreamed of becoming a firefighter but now the family of the boy is planning his funeral. ktvu's claudine wong is talking to grieving family members. >> reporter: famying and friends -- family and friends stood in the spot where he was gunned down. >> they chased him, shot him in the back of my aunt's house. my kids seen it. it is sad. >> reporter: his mother gave us this picture of her son and she talked to him 20 minutes before the shooting. he was on his way home when he was shot. the sister made this plea. >> if you know anything, just let us know. he did not deserve to die. >> reporter: neighbors say there were a lot of people

around when this happened. there were kids in the driveway where he was shot, there were kids along the street and even in that park. but neighbors say people are scared to talk. they heard 5 shots and saw a group of people running from the scene. >> people don't care. they shoot you in day light, in front of the cops. it don't matter now. >> reporter: the family needs people to come forward to get justice for the boy who wanted to be a firefighter. justice for the son who was on his way home but never made it. claudine wong, ktvu channel 2 news. san jose firefighters believe a pot of oil left on a stove was the start of a house fire this morning. the fire broke out at a home about 5:00 a.m. with four people sleeping inside. one of those people woke up to the sound of a smoke alarm and

then saw smoke. everyone got out safely. firefighters protected nearby homes from flames but the home is a total loss. >> watching it burn, how fast it spread, at first when we got out it didn't seem like it was going to destroy the house and then it did. >> the homeowner was out of town. his two sons were in the house. three suspicious san jose brush fires are under investigation. they started last night in kelley park. the fire captain says 12 acres burned. and the fires are considered suspicious because they all started that same time in the same area. there are a number of reasons for how the fires could have started. there was a homeless encampment, the grass is dry. >> san francisco mayor ed lee announced a half a billion

dollars in funding for sfo improvements. $133million in funding for the new control tower. officials joined the mayer for the ground breaking on monday. other improvements, improved boder areas, check points, baggage system and parking garage and safety projects. it will create 3300 blocksch. berkeley city counsel meeting over a ordinance. in the end the count voted to give the ordinance the green light. ktvu's christien kafton has more. >> this motion is out of order. officials will investigate an explosive freight train detrailment in ohio this morning. -- derailment in ohio this morning. residents were evacuated. firefighters let the fire burn itself out. a dark cloud over the opening today of comcon, the convention in san diego. a 53-year-old fan was killed crossing the street yesterday trying to become one of the first people lining up for the convention. producers are saddened by the death and will hold a memorial tomorrow. 120,000 people are expected over the next few days. for the third time in two

housing. they approved rezoning to allow more apartments to be built. 2400 apartments can now be built, some across the harbor from oakland. last year protesters threatened to sue if the city did not allow for more construction. it may take firefighters longer to respond because of a sny limit on emergency assistance. on july 1/2 of the fire stations were closed because of budget cuts. now they put a cap on the number of fire engines and man power it will send outside its territory. young pelicans appear to be starving. on monday we showed you brown
